Emanated from a cooperative planning, implementation and learning process of the German cities Bremen, Leipzig and Nürnberg (www.koopstadt.de), which became part of the National Urban Development Policy, the BioCity Campus project became a model project of the same strategic policy. The project development scheme is being elaborated by UrbanPlan in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Society. The project’s goal is the exemplary advancement of the forming of dynamic new technology fields (in this case the regenerative medicine) by spatial concentration of innovative high-technology components. In this context the BioCity Campus should become an identification and communication location for technology components and their cooperants as well as an information and learning location for the public. Because of this reason the use components of the BioCity Campus shall not be restricted to the conventional science and research institutions and hightech companies. “Garage shops” for start-up companies and for specialised craftsmen, an “innovation hall” as showcase of the biotechnology, an international kindergarten and a natural science based highschool shall also be part of the BioCity Campus project and thus shall create synergetic linkages to a multiplicity of local and regional actors.
